Tom Nevers Head, Nantucket Island. This south shore is open to both storms and longshore currents. The erosion here averages 10-15 feet per year. But what the ocean ‘takes away’, it also deposits elsewhere and some shorelines are accreting, that is, adding the sand lost here. The structures on the beach are the remnants of a submarine listening post during the War.
