Altar Rock, Nantucket Island. From the highest point on the island (about 100 feet) the terrain appears flat but this is moraine. Not high but very uneven deposits from the glacier make it a ‘hummocky” topography. This contrasts dramatically with outwash plain. Here the deposits are not sorted; small to fine sediments tend to be mixed with stone to boulder sized materials.
