In the fall of 2004, the Mass. Studies Project
collaborated with the Norwood Historical Society
to pilot the Mass. Memories Roadshow through a collection
event held at the F. Holland Day Historic House
in Norwood.
More than 70 residents of Norwood contributed photographs
documenting their families' arrivals in Norwood,
whether within the past few years, or in past centuries.
Norwood High School students brought family photos
and stories to the event, and were involved as volunteers,
along with Norwood Historical Society members. Contributors
brought tintype, card-mounted, paper-print photographs,
and original naturalization, birth, marriage and
death documents, with dates ranging from 1863 to
2003. The Boston Globe and Dedham Transcript both
covered this event, and local public access television
videotaped the stories behind the photos. The lively
pilot event resulted in a pool of 112 digital images
for the collections of the Norwood Historical Society
and the Massachusetts Studies Project.
