Dear Teacher,
Massachusetts, as you know, is a very exciting state with a wealth of history, culture, and tradition. Students in Massachusetts are quite fortunate to have the opportunity to experience this wealth firsthand. The Secretary of the Commonwealth hopes to motivate students to learn about their state and to take advantage of what it has to offer by providing a lesson plan to accompany the coloring booklet, Color Massachusetts. The plan, which has been prepared by Citizen Information Service, a division within my office, includes additional text, discussion questions, and suggestions for activities and field trips.
The Citizen Information staff has prepared this lesson plan in language that is easily understood by third graders. The material can be readily reproduced and you are encouraged to utilize it to fit classroom needs.
The lesson plan is designed to allow you to be creative and to encourage your students to think. We hope you find it useful. Enjoy your studies and have a good school year.

Sincerely,
William Francis Galvin
Secretary of the Commonwealth
