Westy Egmont

Biography

 

 

 

Dr. Westy Egmont became Executive Director of the International Institutes of Boston and

New Hampshire in February of 1995.

 

Founded in 1924, IIB is New England's leading provider of services to the foreign-born.  The Institute provides English and Literacy classes, job counseling and placement, and legal and social services to enable newcomers to become self-sufficient.  IIB and IINH are the primary agencies for refugees from war-torn countries around the globe who are being settled in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

 

Formerly, Dr. Egmont served as the Executive Director of the Greater Boston Food Bank, a major supplier of food for over 750 community agencies in Eastern Massachusetts, from 1987-1995.

 

Dr. Egmont's prior experience includes the Commonwealth Service Corps, Rift Valley Academy in Kenya, and a Sunday morning talk show on WBZ-TV for 11 seasons.  Egmont serves on The Governor's Advisory Council and is past President of Boston Cares.  He serves as a member of the Board of Executive Service Corps of New England and has served many other boards.

 

Currently, Egmont has been responsible for the creation and implementation of Dreams of Freedom, a multi-media exhibit about the history of immigration to Boston.

 

Dr. Egmont, father of four, lives in Norwell with his wife, Susan.
