Richard Aieta

IN TRIBUTE TO DICK AIETA, 1943-1999

Social Studies has lost a teacher and ambassador extraordinaire.

After serving as Social Studies teacher and Department Head in the Hamilton-Wenham High School for many years, Dick Aieta of Ipswich served briefly as the K-12 Coordinator of Social Studies in the Medford Public Schools. A tireless worker on behalf of social studies curriculum and teacher involvement, Dick was in the forefront of educational reform, innovation and leadership. He served as President of the Mass. Council for the Social Studies, received the Outstanding Supervisor Award from the MCSS in 1997, and was a longtime member of the Mass. Geographic Alliance Board. An early promoter of the Massachusetts Studies Project, he shared some GEO ideas before his untimely death.
