Website Scavenger Hunt

 

Grade: 3

 

Unit: Wampanoag Tribe

 

Goal: (*Enduring Understanding)

Students will discover the Wampanoags lived in the northeast region of North America and were part of the Woodland Indians culture.*

Students will use tools to navigate a website and find information on Native Americans.

 

Essential Question:

In what region of North America did the Wampanoags live?

What was the Indian culture for this region?

Development and Selection of Activities:

¨      This class session will take place in the computer lab.

¨      The teacher will model how to use the mouse to navigate the webpage.

¨      Computers will already be open to the appropriate webpage.

¨      Students will work in pairs following the directions on their scavenger hunt and answering the questions asked.

 

Content:

¨      Wampanoags lived in a community.  A community is a group of people who work, live, and have fun together.

¨      The Wampanoags were part of the Eastern Woodland culture.

¨      Native Americans used natural resources to build their houses.

¨      The Eastern Woodlands tribes lived in longhouses and wigwams.

¨      The northeastern region of North America was called Eastern Woodlands because the Native Americans in this area lived in the forests.

 

Curriculum Standard:

ELA: Language: LS 4.13: Vocabulary and Concept Development

            “Determine the meaning of words using their context.”
