Blue Room Newsletter

March 2003

Hello Parents and Caregivers,

We have had yet another exciting month fly by!  Since January, Blue Room friends have been learning a lot about restaurants.  We have talked about diners, sub shops, pasta, and pizza shops.  During February, we also learned about nutrition.  We had an exciting visit to a real diner and were able to see the kitchen!  Throughout the past 2 months, our dramatic play area has been transformed into a restaurant and friends have taken turns being cooks, waiters/waitresses, and customers.  The restaurant theme has been a blast but it is time to move on to our next theme.  During the month of March (and possibly April) we will begin learning about the Aquarium.

March brings lots of exciting new things and some that are not so exciting.  Sadly we have said goodbye to two of our friends, Tiffany and Adam.  BUT we are very excited to welcome Maddie who has recently transitioned from Yellow Room!!

The trolley is back!  Since it was such a hit with the children last season, the Blue Room Staff has decided to return to the trolley stop for many new adventures.  The weather is still cold, so make sure your child always has a pair of gloves/mittens and a hat in his/her cubby.  Sometimes we take the children on surprise trolley rides.  Please make sure they are always prepared with warm outerwear!

Parent Reminders:

Ø      Your child’s cubby should always be well stocked with extra clothing… accidents do happen!  Please keep and extra shirt, sweatshirt, pair of pants, underwear, and socks in your child’s cubby.  In the event that clothing is sent home, be sure to send in replacements to be kept in the cubby for future accidents.

Ø      PLEASE LEAVE TOYS AT HOME!  Our classroom has plenty of toys for the children to share.  Things brought in from home often get lost, broken, or cause arguments.  When a child brings something in it will be given to you (the parent/caregiver) to play with at work.

Ø      Slippers may stay in school and the children are more than welcome to continue wearing them.  However, with the drier weather we are no longer enforcing slippers in the classroom.  Rainy and snowy days will be the only times we will try to have children wear their slippers.

Thank you! …for remembering to sign your child in/out and for making sure that your child arrives to school before 9:30am.  You are helping our classroom function better!

At Home:

Ø      Have your child help prepare dinner one night.  Pretend that you are the cooks for a restaurant and family members are your customers.  This will help your child use the things s/he has learned from our Restaurant theme.

Ø      If possible buy a pet fish for your child to keep at home and care for.  This will tie into our upcoming Aquarium theme.
