Unit: The American Revolution in Massachusetts

Goal:  The Massachusetts Colonists had many advantages in overcoming the British army at the start of the Revolutionary War.

Essential Question(s):

1.         What were the differences between the Loyalists and Colonists? How did each group affect the outcomes/events of the Revolutionary War?

2.         How did the actions of the Loyalists affect the feelings of the Colonists during the development of Massachusetts?

3.         How many of the Colonists were members of the British Militia before the war? How did this affect the change and mood of the people?

Development and selection of Activities and Resources:

Ø         Compare and Contrast Map: Loyalists/Colonists

Ø         Journal writing: How would you feel if your neighbor had strong feelings for something that you did not believe in? Would you support something that was far away?

Ø                  Army: look at the British Militia: Venn Diagram
