Unit: The American Revolution in Massachusetts

Goal: The third graders will be able to locate the major cities in Massachusetts that played a part in the American Revolution.

            The geography of Massachusetts helped the minutemen overcome the British Militia.

 

Essential Question(s): How did the geography (terrain, natural resources, etc…) play into the hands of the Colonists/Minutemen?

 

Development and Selection of Activities and Resources:

Ø         Exploring different types of maps

Quick write: what they know about maps

Ø         Look at the map of Massachusetts in the present; locate town the students live in, and compare that to Boston

Ø         Locate the cities of Lexington and Concord on the map

Ø         Use 3-D maps on the Internet for those visual learners

Ø         Look at and answer questions on worksheet 1-Locate the Site, and answer the questions
