Industry and Quincy History – Lesson 4

·        What symbols represent the past and present of Quincy today?

Objectives

 

 

·        Students will analyze city seal and discuss its attributes.

·        Students will utilize previously garnered information to update city seal with modern day symbols

Standards

USII.30 – Describe some of the major economic and social trends of the late 20th Century

Lesson Activities

 

  1. Students will research the symbolism behind the current city seal
  2. Students will locate at least 3 locations in the city that have the seal on a flag or building
  3. Students will work in small groups to create an updated seal on a poster board, which includes attributes of the past and present - industry, immigration, inventions, etc.
  4. Students will write a one page explanation of their seal and why the chose specific symbols to incorporate into the new seal
  5. Students will present updated seal to class

  • Current city seal
  • Poster board

Assessment

  • Completion of updated city seal
  • Clearly written and presented explanation of update

1888: Incorporation of the Town of Quincy as the City of Quincy.
