Industry and Quincy History – Lesson 1

Essential Questions

·        What influence did geography have on the industries in Quincy?

Objectives

 

 

·        Students will understand connection between industry and the geography of an area.

·        Students will research the geographic and economic elements of Quincy industrial history.

·        Students will demonstrate understanding by creating a graphic organizer about specific geographic areas of Quincy.

Lesson Activities

 

  1. After a brief lecture and reading on the history of early Quincy, students will get into groups of 4 Day 1
  2. In groups, students will look at provided maps of area and chose a pre-designated section to research (maps from 1790, 1830 and 1927)

      Day 1

HWK: Each student must return to class with 2 facts (and sources) about industry and people in their section of Quincy

  1. Students will begin a graphic organizer about the area of the city they have chosen (and the three designated time periods) through research at the school, public library as well as the internet   Day 2

HWK: Continue researching economy and geography on designated sections

  1. Students update their graphic organizer using an electronic format (Inspiration 7.0) and present information to class  Day 2 and 3
