Kathryn Grover is an independent researcher, writer, and editor in
American history. She is the author of Make
A Way Somehow: African American Life in a Northern
Community (Syracuse University Press, 1994) and The Fugitive's Gibraltar: Escaping Slaves and Abolitionism in New
Bedford, Massachusetts (University
of Massachusetts Press,
2001). She is editor of New Jersey
History, the biannual journal of the New Jersey Historical Society, and has
recently completed a Historic Resource Study of the antebellum African American
community on the north slope of Beacon Hill
for Boston African American National Historic Site.
