Shelburne Falls. Deerfield River. Hill Towns & Transition. Here the river is forced over a significant drop and the river is now harnessed for waterpower and adjacent mills. Revealed in the dry river bed below the dam are potholes made by stones swirling into the rock in the former river bed. These potholes testify to the power of water and the sediment it transports.
